Musselwhite is principally an underground gold mine and associated processing plant producing nearly a quarter of a million ounces of gold annually. The mine is situated in northwestern Ontario, Canada and as of December 21, 2007 is now owned 100% by Goldcorp Inc. Previous to this Goldcorp was 68% owner and operator and Kinross Gold Corporation held a 32% interest in the mine. Musselwhite has established an innovative agreement with the First Nation people which provides for a range of education, training, employment and business related services for local communities.
At January 1, 2007 proven and probable gold reserves at Musslewhite were 1.78 million ounces. Musselwhite is expected to produce in the range of 225,000-250,000 gold ounces annually at a total cash cost between $380-$420 per ounce. In 2007, Goldcorp's 68% share of production at Musselwhite totaled approximately 155,700 ounces of gold, which was 5% higher than 2006. |
