Environmental Initiatives | Community Development Environmental Initiatives
In the early stage of project development the environmental studies required under the Environmental Impact Assessment furnished the Los Filos team with a broad overview and understanding of the ecosystems existing in Los Filos and El Bermejal. These studies served as a baseline for determining the effectiveness of environmental preventative measures and monitoring activities as the project moved into production.
Studies have also provided the foundation for planning and developing environmental control measures for mining and processing activities. Most of the preventive measures were incorporated into the design of the industrial facilities to protect and maintain the quality of existing environmental elements including water, air, soil, flora and fauna.
Community Development
Los Filos team uses modern technology and best practices for the benefit of all of its stakeholders including shareholders, employees, and local communities. From the start of the project, Los Filos has been committed to the welfare of the towns of Mezcala, Carrizalillo, and Mazapa in the Municipality of Eduardo Neri. Mine development has increased job opportunities for the inhabitants of these towns. Food services, lodging, and transportation activities have also increased since the Los Filos projet began.
The operation is located in an established mining community in the Nukay mining district with the Nukay mine operating for more than 30 years. The existing communities are familiar with mining and comprise much of the workforce at the operations. With the development of Los Filos the community has witnessed the benefits of modern mining practices, with emphasis on sustainability, sharing in the prosperity that the industry brings and improved relationships with local communities.
