Cerro Blanco property was acquired by Glamis through the acquisition of Mar West Resources in 1998 and has been exploring it since 1999. The property is only five kilometers from the Pan American Highway in southeastern Guatemala near the town of Asuncion Mita. This community of nearly 15,000 provides excellent infrastructure for the project.
Initial exploration work and drill data was geared toward defining an open pit resource. Subsequent drilling identified a number of narrower, higher-grade intercepts and the development scope changed to underground mining with potential synergies to the Marlin property.
Continuing exploration has identified a number of parallel to sub parallel quartz veins containing high-grade gold mineralization. In 2005, baseline environmental studies and permitting activities were initiated. The current objective is to calculate a proven and probable gold reserve prior to developing Cerro Blanco into an underground mine.
