APPRENTICESHIP

Ian Telfer, Chairman and former President
& CEO, and Melanie Pilon, MBA
Graduate & President’s Apprentice

Ian Telfer, Chairman and former President & CEO of Goldcorp, has over 20 years experience in the mining business and over recent years he became concerned with the diminishing number of skilled, educated, young people entering the mining industry. The Apprentice idea came about when Mr. Telfer met with Mr. Michael Kelly, Dean of the School of Management at Ottawa University, indicating his interest in attracting new talent to the mining industry.

Mr. Telfer decided to hire an Apprentice who could work with him for a year at the corporate head office and subsequently share experiences with other graduate students to broaden awareness of the mining industry.

Melanie Pilon, an MBA graduate from the University of Ottawa, won the apprenticeship in 2005. Ms. Pilon worked with Mr. Telfer on various projects and tasks and accompanied him at conferences, presentations, meetings and mine site visits.

Etienne Morin was the 2006 Apprentice and upon completion of the one year apprenticeship was hired as a Business Development Analyst with Goldcorp.
