Exploration Geologist
Title: EXPLORATION GEOLOGIST
Location: Porcupine Gold Mines - Strategic Development Group
Reports to: Senior Geologist
Responsibilities: The Exploration Geologist shall gather, compile, and interpret geological information for projects in the Timmins area. The successful applicant will take ownership for safe, efficient, and cost effective exploration drill program as well as generate new targets on existing properties. Extensive communication and coordination with the adjacent technical service personnel is crucial to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved.
Nature and Scope:
- Full-time, permanent staff position, working the standard 5-day/week schedule
- Successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that he/she follows PGM safety standards, policies, and procedures and that the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Mining Regulations and policies of other regulatory agencies are adhered to in all circumstances.
- Generation of targets and exploration models on existing properties, and identify potential acquisitions.
- Interact with industry, government and academic partners and develop new partnerships.
- Design/target diamond drill holes ranging between 60-1600m lengths utilizing Vulcan 3-D software.
- Provide daily management of all aspects of diamond drilling (predominantly staged from surface), needed for exploration and ore definition, within budgeted parameters. Timely 3-D tracking of drill hole progress is essential. Compile and interpret diamond drilling results. Direct diamond drilling contractors.
- Responsible for ensuring that the drill core is promptly and accurately logged.
- Calculate mineral resources as required for planning and reporting purposes.
Qualifications / Skills
Candidate should posses a minimum undergraduate degree in geology (B.Sc.) or a technical diploma from a recognized institution.
Exploration experience gained through working on narrow-vein Au deposits.
Experience with general mine planning software and geographic information systems. Display a working knowledge of standard software such as Vulcan, AutoCAD, MS-2007 applications.
Possess, or qualify for, registration as Professional Geologist in the province of Ontario.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
