Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. reported earnings of $2,076,000 or $0.02 per share for the six months ended June 30, 2002. These earnings resulted primarily from the sale of non-core assets during the period. In June the Company completed the acquisition of Minas Luismin S.A. de C.V. Luismin is a gold and silver producer located in Mexico. During the six months ended June 30, 2002 Luismin sold 91,925 gold equivalent ounces which were produced at a total cash cost of $196 per ounce. Gold production for the second half of the year is expected to equal these results. The accompanying statements of operations include Luismin sales and costs only for the post-acquisition period of June 19 to June 30, 2002.
Exploration As part of the Luismin acquisition Wheaton River acquired over forty exploration properties. Wheaton River is seeking joint venture partners to advance many of these projects. The first joint venture was concluded with Geologix Explorations Inc. in August. Geologix may earn up to 70% in the El Salitre Project in the Mexican state of Durango and under certain conditions Wheaton River can reacquire 25% of the property. Financing Special warrants sold in May 2002 to finance the purchase of Luismin were converted into shares and share purchase warrants on August 23, 2002.
