Located in Chihuahua State, Mexico, El Sauzal mine has been a reliable, low cost gold producer and an important foundation for Goldcorp's Mexican operations. During 2014, the remediation process commenced as part of the activities required for the closure of the El Sauzal mine in 2015. The remediation activities in 2014 focused on contouring of overburden dumps, re-vegetation, and the final placement of dry stacked tailings.
A conventional open-pit mine and mill operation, El Sauzal had gold production of 37,700 ounces in 2014. Over its life El Sauzal mine has produced over 1.7 million ounces of gold at very low cash costs.
