Located in Chihuahua State, Mexico, El Sauzal has been a reliable, low cost gold producer and an important foundation for Goldcorp's Mexican operations. During 2014, the remediation process will commence as part of the activities required for the closure of the El Sauzal Mine in 2015. The remediation activities in 2014 will focus on contouring of overburden dumps, re-vegetation, and the final placement of dry stacked tailings.
A conventional open-pit mine and mill operation, El Sauzal has proven and probable reserves of 150,000 oz of gold as of December 31, 2013 and had gold production of 80,600 oz in 2013, with forecast production of between 100,000 - 105,000 oz in 2014. Over its life El Sauzal has produced over 1.5 million ounces of gold at very low cash costs.
