Extending operations at South Dakota’s only operating gold mine.

The Wharf mine is an open pit, heap leach operation. Successful exploration has continued to grow the gold reserves and extend the mine’s life. The mine has been recognized for its close ties to the local communities and its progressive reclamation of previously mined areas.

The property consists of several areas of adjoining gold mineralization, which have been mined as a series of open pits. Reclamation activities have been undertaken on those pits, even while mining continues elsewhere on the property. Wharf management works closely with local communities and regulatory authorities to ensure that reclamation takes place in a socially and environmentally sound manner. This progressive rehabilitation will limit the reclamation that is required at mine closure.
