Gold mining is the primary industry in the Municipality of Red Lake, and Goldcorp is central to many local developments and initiatives. The operation and local workforce have an enormous economic effect on the area and its businesses. Goldcorp supports a wide range of local activities related to education, health, community development, arts and culture. Goldcorp also operates a local recreation centre in Balmertown, which has a swimming pool, gymnasium, curling rink, bowling alley and a variety of function rooms. Goldcorp is actively involved in developing a new 54 lot housing project, as well as supporting the construction of a new regional medical clinic within the Red Lake municipality.  These initiatives support the corporate vision of Together, Creating Sustainable Value in the communities that we operate in.

Goldcorp is actively engaged with local aboriginal communities and in 2013 signed the Lac Seul Obishikikaang Collaboration agreement.  This agreement lays the foundation for future benefits for the Lac Seul First Nation, including training and employment opportunities, business and contracting opportunities, and a framework for consultation on regulatory permitting as well as Goldcorp’s future financial contributions in support of community development.
