Safe production is Porcupine Gold Mines number one objective which goes hand in hand with Goldcorp’s “Zero Fatalities” objective. In our continual advancement of safety systems and loss prevention processes, employees are encouraged to assess the risk in the workplace “before, during and after” their work has been done so that themselves and the oncoming person's work is in an environment which is “Safe Enough for Our Families.” In striving for these ambitious objectives we are continually developing on our existing programs to ensure the strong PGM Safety Culture.
The operating sites within the Porcupine property include the Hoyle Mine, the Dome Mine, the Hollinger Open Pit and its milling facility. The land package also includes dozens of historic mine properties, and we are committed to restoring and reclaiming the land through the rehabilitation of numerous tailings facilities, many mine openings to surface and the demolition of historic infrastructure. The Coniaurum reclamation project has been recognized for its progressive approach to environmental management by encouraging indigenous biodiversity, with Porcupine being awarded the National 2011 Tom Peters Reclamation Award through the Canadian Land Reclamation Association.
